On the search again for a new summer fragrance? Here’s my top 10 fave scensational scents for this season.
1 – Narciso rodriguez – Rose Musc
Narciso Rodriguez have issued a new perfume inspired both by their favorite perfumery material, musk, and the Orient, with Rose Musc eau de parfum intense. It follows in the footsteps of Amber Musc (2013) which was designed with the Middle Eastern market in mind.
The olfactory family the scent belongs to is described as being a woody-musky-floral-Oriental. The blend features the raw material of Moroccan rose absolute in the head notes followed by a core of “coeur de musc” or “heart of musk”. The base is constructed around black pepper, saffron and black woods. The intensity the fragrance favors and the price tag it presents make it part of a more exclusive range than the signature perfumes from the brand. It is also unmistakable that the choice of molten gold as a packaging color was made from a Middle Eastern clientèle point of view, part of Western perfumery luxury being currently very much influenced by the values of ostentation dear to the region. Available from Sephora and Paris Gallery.
2 – Miller Harris – Rose en Noir
Miller Harris describes its dark and alluring Rose en Noir perfume as “a velvety rich fragrance created in honor of the sensual Turkish rose.” Sweet Raspberry, Violet Leaf and a hint of Petit Grain are a delicate introduction to the spicy Black Pepper and Nutmeg heart, which draws down to a rich base of Ambrette Seed, Tabac Noir, Vetiver and Patchouli. Available at Net a Porter.
3 – Eisenberg – I Am
A narcissistic perfume that unfolds on a delicate Raspberry head note, followed by the opulent bouquet of the heart notes of Magnolia and Black Pepper, while a persistent Amber and Sandalwood base prints in an indelible way the memory of a perfume. Perfect for a confident seduction Head Notes: Bergamot, Orange, Raspberry. Heart Notes: Magnolia, Black Pepper, Vetiver. Base Notes: Sandalwood, Amber, Musks. Available from Paris Gallery.
4 – Chopard – Happy Spirit Amira d’Amour
Happy Spirit Amira d’Amour is an invitation to surrender to the magic of this moment, somewhere between the mesmerizing golden light of reality and the purple depth of your most secret dreams.
This delightful flowery combination brings a dimension of opulence, an entrancing sense of seduction and femininity. Rich dry-down notes of warm honey and velvety Tonka bean prolong this sensual odyssey, leaving behind a lingering trail of sheer voluptuousness.
5 – Tom Ford – Soleil Blanc
An addictive solar floral amber alive with seductive refinement and refreshing decadence. The unexpected spiced opening of cardamom and pink peppercorn creates a sultry complement to the vibrant citrus of bergamot combined with pistachio.
Pulsating at its floral core, the sensual blend of ylang ylang, Egyptian jasmine and tuberose breathes with the lush intensity of those who thrive in the sun. At the base, the amber warmth and tonka bean intoxicate with carnal heat while icy coconut milk finishes with an inspired touch of delectable creaminess.
6 – Jo Malone – Rare Tea
Jo Malone London has come up with a clever solution: a collection of six aromas based on tea, a universally loved ingredient, yet one that has seldom been used in perfumery. ‘With the new Rare Teas collection, we wanted to create something authentic, that hadn’t been done before, but wasn’t so quirky as to be unwearable,’ says Celine Roux, the brand’s fragrance director. ‘They all have a purity and clarity that is as close to the single-leaf teas as possible; there was no need for a twist.’ This seemingly simple concept in fact required extraordinary attention to detail to ensure the finished products amplified the central notes of each particular blend. For example, to create the Oolong Tea scent, the leaves are left to wither on bamboo racks in the sun, before being oxidised for 15 hours and infused for precisely 68 hours to develop the desired woody notes. The Silver Needle Tea is created using silver-tip leaves sourced from the lush valleys of Fujian, southeast China, where they are handpicked at dawn to maximise their freshness. As Daphne du Maurier said: ‘Nothing like a cup of tea to make a person feel better, man or woman.’ Tea evokes solace and sustenance, ceremony and comfort. It is egalitarian, yet elite, familiar yet exotic and steeped in tradition.
7 – Clive Christian – Crystal
For those of you who have cash to splash (this retails at AED25,000) this might be the fragrance you have been searching for. As a tribute to No 1 ‘The World’s Most Expensive Perfume’ – the ‘perfume of Clive’s heart’ – both the men’s and the women’s perfumes are now available in the original hand-cut crystal bottles, designed in 1999. The crystal bottles are handcrafted in France and then sent to England for the gold collar to be set. The No 1 crystal presentation is authenticated with a single white brilliant-cut diamond, which symbolises the rare and precious ingredients used in the perfume. Available from Paris Gallery.
8 – Narciso Rodriguez – Narciso Eau de Parfum Poudrée
This new version is subtle, soft and sensual, and sophisticated. It’s envelops without over powering and has a modernity of sophistication. If you’re a fan of powdery scents, these are a few you need to try. A softer interpretation of the original seductive musk version. Both qualify as second-skin scents and are housed in gorgeous minimalist flacons. This edition blends rose and jasmine with warm, creamy woods creating a long-lasting, velvety aroma.
9 – Marc Jacobs – Cucumber
Nothing is more refreshing spritzing yourself with this wonderfully fresh scent. I’m always a fan of cucumber, but I usually have this in my Hendricks. This scent scream summer. Available from Sephora
10 – Michael Kors – Coral Eau de Parfum
A tantalizingly fresh scent inspired by feminine sensuality and the sun-drenched color of the tropics. Wrap yourself in the brilliant clarity of this floral, fruity fragrance infused with sparkling zest of lemon and the juicy pulp of grapefruit. Mouthwatering mandarin and tingling green blackcurrant tease the senses. Pink pepper lends a chic, unexpected edge to the top note while rosy spice leaves an unforgettable impression. At the core of the fragrance lies the refreshing sweetness of raspberry, the delicate femininity of orange flower, the hypnotic charm of tuberose and the exotic luxuriousness of jasmine.
