Our Turkish delight – Daycation at Rixos, the Palm

In Dubai we are totally spoilt. Everything is at our finger tips and we can access it fast.  Beauty, pool day, brunch, kids club. It’s all there if you want it and can afford it.

However, it’s not always the case that you can get everything in one place allowing you for a totally family friendly fun day compete with spa treatments , an amazing brunch and an even better kids club.

My daughter and I have been incredibly lucky to have been out of Dubai for the past 8 weeks escaping the crazy heat and sweat. As glamorous and enviable as it sounds, it means that we have missed out on very important daddy time. We have no help or nanny and have a very close little team, the three of us and cherish our family time together.

On our return, we wanted to have a fabulous family day that allowed us to get outside without melting and to have valuable time together. Our wish list was pretty extensive and we found that Rixos on the Palm would be able to cater to every one of our needs.

The family bit:
We loved the huge pool that allowed us to get a little vitamin d whilst staying cool. There’s plenty of room, so even when busy and there’s an abundance of inflatables, you’ve still got your own space to throw the obligatory ‘Frozen” beach ball around.

The mummy bit:
As I’ve not had a minute, never mind an hour to myself with all our travelling, I got treated to an early birthday present and some ‘me time’ at the Anjana spa. The surrounds are peaceful and tranquil and immediately transport you to a place far away from the outside world. I had a hydrating and uplifting facial and at the same time, was treated to heavenly foot reflexology which took all my stress and cares away.

The daddy bit:
It was time to fill our tummies which is always daddy’s and Millar’s fave time. Millar had a HUGE bowl of freshly made pasta which was made totally from scratch right in front of her eyes. She initially loved this, but started to lose interest so one of the amazing staff whisked her away to the cheese section where she could carefully cut her own fresh parmesan for her pasta.

Daddy wanted to try some of everything:
lamb shank – this was incredible
chocolate cake

The kid bit:
As much as we love spending time the three of us, it’s always a real luxury to get an hour to ourselves to have some kind of conversation. Millar happily skipped off to the kids club. I particularly liked that there was some structure and key activities arranged for selected times rather than just a baby prison. Millar even won second prize for one of the guessing games.

We all went back to the pool for the last hour of the day feeling stuffed, relaxed and genuinely rather happy.

I nipped back in for a speedy blow-dry so that I didn’t even need to wash my hair when I got home. I was in and out in 40 mins – pretty impressive.

We had a super day from 9.30am – 7pm and feeling very lucky that we got to have such a great day together.
